Missing U of I Student

Hye Min Choi, also known as Joseph Choi last spoke to his father by phone Saturday at the airport. According to police,  he told his father he was hungry and was going to get something to eat before his flight home.

Hours later at the airport, his mother picked up his luggage in North Carolina, but Choi never came out. Police say he did not board his flight and did not rebook a flight with United Airlines. They're now asking for the public's help in finding him. Authorities say there doesn't appear to be any foul play.

Garry McCarthy, Superintendent, Chicago Police says "It doesn't appear to be any criminality involved. The young man was apparently having some problems in school. We have some leads on where he may be. It appears that he may or may not have wanted to go home".

Nathan Smith, a U of I student said, "That's terrifying. That's the kind of thing that I'm sure all mothers are just just despair when they hear that kinda thing happen to somebody".

Choi just finished his first year at U of I, majoring in mechanical engineering. According to published reports, his mom says he didn't have many friends and could not drive.

We reached out to U of I for reaction to McCarthy's claim about Choi having problems at school. A spokesperson said that was "news to us", but they could not comment further.
