Washington Mayor: State Aid Not Enough for Recovery Efforts

The mayor of Washington in central Illinois isn't sure state money will entirely cover the costs of last year's tornado.

Sunday, Mayor Gary Manier said he isn't sure if his city's share of $45 million in state aid will get the job done.

Gov. Pat Quinn announced the funding after FEMA denied the state's request for local government assistance.

The mayor thinks the city can come close to paying all of its tornado-related bills. He's especially concerned about the lack of property taxes to support schools, parks, and libraries in that area.
