Man Says "God" Told Him to Kill Woman

THOMASBORO -- The Champaign County Sheriff's Office says there was "no connection" and they don't know why Aaron Munds picked the 67-year old woman's home.

They aren't releasing the victim's name -- but say Munds knocked on her door wanting to give her a lottery ticket. When she opened the door, Munds rushed in and began choking her saying he was "sent by god," "god drove me here" and that the "son of Satan lives here."

The woman then broke free and ran outside her back door. Munds caught up to her and began choking her again until a witness stepped in.

"The other person, who we're identifying as a witness calmly went out to him and diffused the situation by just simply saying, 'hey, we need to go here and talk.'The suspect, the arrestee followed her, they sat down and when the deputies arrived on scene the deputy observed the suspect and the witness having a casual conversation," Champaign County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Curt Apperson said.

Officials say the witness convinced Munds to speak to deputies and that he had no weapons. The woman was later taken to the hospital by family.

Munds is being charged with home invasion and attempted first degree murder, according to the Champaign County State's Attorney's Office.
