Sheriff's Office Providing Place to Apply for Concealed Carry

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office will be making the concealed carry application process easier when permits are available in two weeks.

You can apply for concealed carry permits online only beginning January 5. Starting Monday, January 6, the sheriff's office will have a computer set up in the records lobby at the Sangamon County complex for the online application process. A webcam will also be available for the required ID photo, and a scanner for your training certificate.

"It's not something we're mandated to do," Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell said. "There's some group of the population out there that doesn't have internet access, and we want to make sure they are able to apply online also. For that segment of the population that doesn't have access, we're going to do all we can to help them through the process."

Campbell said they are also working on live fingerprint scanning that may also be needed for the permit application process.

The Illinois State Police say paper applications for concealed carry permits will be available by June.
