12 Arrested in Decatur After Shootings

A dozen people are facing some serious charges after a string of shootings in Decatur last weekend.

Police said the suspects were arrested on weapons and other violence charges. Some are also facing drug charges.

The arrests were made in clusters earlier this week, and police say more could be coming.

This is all after police responded to five separate shootings in Decatur Sunday.

One of the calls was in the 1200-block of North Union Street. That's where, police say, a man was shot in the leg.

He was the only person injured in these shootings.

The victim's friends and family say he's recovering, and they're thankful it wasn't worse.

"I feel alright," Jarque Alexander, a friend of the victim, said. "I just sometimes be nervous, being around here. I don't know who to trust. Cars, sometimes they just pull up. My message is stop the violence. Somebody's going to lose their life over something that's not serious."

Police have stepped up patrols in the areas where these shootings happened.

Officers said during one of the arrests, a suspect jumped out of a window armed with a handgun.

During another arrest, another suspect tried flushing a handgun down the toilet.
