Same-Sex Marriage Supporters Plan Tuesday Rally

Gearing up for another push for same-sex marriage, supporters from all over the state are planning a march and rally on Springfield's capitol Tuesday--the first day of the legislature's fall session.

Supporters of SB10 hope this will be the last battle for same-sex couples who hope to legally marry in the Land of Lincoln.

"I realized, in my mind anyway, one of the things that was missing was a visible external approach to this issue," event organizer Tracy Baim said. "That we needed to build a little bit more of a solid movement rather than just calling our reps. Let's come together in a large-scale event. Give strength to our allies, and that it's not a risky issue."

Leaders from labor, immigration, faith, women's health, business, sports, and voting rights movements will join supporters at the rally.

Opponents have scheduled a prayer vigil at the capitol for Wednesday.
