Police Investigating U of I Purse Snatchings

Police are investigating at least two incidents of purses being stolen near the U of I campus. Authorities say a 22-year-old woman was walking on East Daniel Street in Champaign around 1:00 this morning when two men approached her and ripped her purse from her shoulder.

Less than an hour later in the same place, another woman reported two men grabbed a wallet from her hand.

Neighbors nearby said they notice crime increase during the school year, and everyone must look out for each other.

"I see people in trouble on campus, I holler real loud to disturb them," Lardell Williams, who lives nearby, said. "People these days are looking for money. They don't care about jail, they don't care about anything. Not even death. But we can slow it down by sticking together."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS.
