Camp for Military Families Begins in Monticello

MONTICELLO--A child growing up in a military family faces some different challenges others may not experience.
That's why the golden corral restaurant chain is sponsoring a summer camp for kids who have parents in the military.

Sunday the 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello welcomed in more than 200 campers, all of them members of a military family.
The goal of the camp is to bring together kids who may be going through the same challenges, so they can feel they aren't alone.
The camp has attracted people from all over the mid-west.
"Well most of these kids will be from Illinois. But we have people registered from Wisconsin, and Indiana, and Iowa, and Missouri. Talked to one family that's coming from as far away as Texas to get here. These are military families so every body's got their own story." said campground director Curt Sinclair.

This is the first year the camp is being held in Illinois, but there are 18 total camps spread across 14 states.
The camp is completely free, and that's made possible by the Golden Corral Corporation.
