Danville Mass Transit May Change Routes

DANVILLE -- Danville Mass Transit is hoping to change bus routes to better serve North Danville as new retail shops open.

One proposed change is increasing the frequency of service from every hour to every half hour.

Hours of operation would also increase on weekends.

DMT conducted a survey with riders and results found riders want most for the bus to be on time.

Changes could be made to streamline bus routes and increase efficiency.

John Metzinger is the Director of Public Transportation and says, "What we've done is looked at each segment of every route and evaluated it's performance and so there are certain segments of routes that are under-performing where we have very few riders actually using the service and so in  those areas we would prose to discontinue service."

This change would shorten bus routes so they could speed up travel time.

Metzinger says none of these changes are set in stone and DMT wants input from riders.

Once the decisions are made, DMT will notify riders before they take affect.
