Two Shot in Separate Champaign Shootings Early Saturday Morning
CHAMPAIGN--Two early Saturday morning shootings in Champaign put two people in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
People we talked to say they are just thankful others weren't caught in the crossfire.
"Especially somebody who is walking down the street or riding by and they were to get involved in it, that's pretty upsetting." said James Hoover, a John Street homeowner.
A peaceful Saturday morning suddenly became riddled with gunfire near the intersection of Queensway Drive and Campbell Drive.
Several people who live in the area didn't go on record, but all say they were shaken awake to the sound of multiple and rapid gunshots.
Champaign Police say just before 3am the triggerman stepped out from behind bushes and began firing at a moving car.
He hit a backseat passenger, who was later treated and released from the hospital.
Then less than an hour later a man was shot in the leg at an apartment building on the 17-hundred block of west John Street.
James Hoover owns a home just feet away, he didn't hear the gunfire, but says a shooting in his neighborhood comes as a complete shock.
"It's pretty quiet. You get a bit of traffic driving through, you'll get the occasional stereo that's thumping down the street a little loud, other than that nothing." Hoover said.
