UIUC Graduates 2013 Class

One chapter has come to a close, and another is just beginning.

"I cried. It is the day that every parent wished for." said Rosie Holloman.

A day that many graduates say wouldn't have a happened without a strong support system.

"They're (family members) always there for me all four years. I could come to them for anything and i couldn't have made it without them." said Irisha Clark after graduating from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

"I'm glad that everyone here is here to support me. They helped get me here and it's nice for them to be here to see what they put into me." said Matt Miller after graduating UIUC.

The years and constant effort put into earning a degree from the University of Illinois is symbolically honored with just a few seconds, and a few steps across a stage.

But those steps will be remembered as one of the most defining moments in a mother's life.

"Right behind giving birth and looking at her giving birth." said Rosie Holloman.

For Pochong Chen, Saturday was a second chance to cross the stage.

"I actually graduated last august and I started working for about a year. And I feel like this is a very special moment for me and for my wife and my family." said Chen.

He came to the United States six years ago from Tiwan.

After earning a Ph.D from the University of Illinois, he's now an assistant professor in Ohio.

But he says he learned a lot about American life and culture while at UICU, and that's something he'll never forget.

"I'm proud of the school, and I will carry the spirit of U of I throughout my career." he said.
