Illinois GOP To Appoint New Chairman

Illinois Republicans will appoint a new chairman of their party this weekend. This comes as former chairman Pat Brady resigned earlier this month.

Brady came under fire after the Republicans lost dozens of seats in the 2012 elections. Some say he also lost a lot of support when he came out in support of gay marriage.

Some high-ranking Illinois Republicans have said they hope the next leader is a woman.

Republican Sen. Dale Righter said it's important for the new chairman to interact with the people.

"First and foremost, they need to listen to the grassroots Republicans: the people who go to the small dinners, the people who put signs in their yards, the people who go door-to-door for the Republicans," Righter said. "Because there is a very real sense out there among the grassroots Republicans that the party leadership has totally lost touch with what's going on, so I think a listening tour is a good first step for the chairman."

Insiders say Jack Dorgan, 53, a Rosemont village trustee, is believed to be a frontrunner in the race.
