Chicago Store Owner Injured After Fighting Robber

Fight or flight. What would you do when facing down an armed man? On Tuesday, a Chicago store owner chose to fight.

The incident was caught on surveillance video. A man in a gray sweatshirt pointed a gun at people inside the store, then fired off a few shots, hitting the 62-year-old store owner and his own accomplice.

Despite being shot, the store owner grabbed a bat and fought back. The owner was shot in the leg, and the two armed robbers got away.

We asked Springfield Police Deputy Chief Cliff Buscher what the store owner should have done.

"It's not worth it," he said. "A little bit of money, your credit card, whatever you have in your wallet, your car, nothing's worth losing your life over. All that can be replaced. Somebody comes up to you, they have a weapon, they're demanding your property, best thing is to give it to 'em, call us, we'll recover it."

Police said one of the suspects in the store robbery has been caught and charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. The second suspect is still on the loose.
