House GOP Plan to Reform Welfare

Illinois House republicans say the welfare system needs fixing.  The GOP held a news conference Tuesday in Decatur to discuss their plans for welfare reform.  One proposed bill would add photos to link cards to help crackdown on fraud.  Another would prevent temporary assistance from being used for things like alcohol or lottery tickets.  The final bill would prevent anyone in jail or with a warrant from receiving public aid. "We want to stop the fraud.  We want to stop the abuse.  We're not saying people shouldn't be on welfare.  There's people that need it. That really rely on it. You need to make sure you weed out the fraud and the abuse so there is ample money there for folks that truly need it," said House Minority leader Tom Cross.  The Illinois House returns to session next week.
