Hoosiers Defeat Illini in Big 10 Tournament

The Illinois men's basketball team is competing in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 Tournament. It's a place where they've had success in the past, and there were high hopes walking into today's big game against Indiana.

The Illini already upset the Hoosiers once this year, but they couldn't do it again.

It was a dreary weather day, matching Illinois' performance. They dug themselves into a deep hole against Indiana, and never got out.

The number one seed in the tournament got out to an 18-5 advantage, effectively running any chance Illinois had to get back into the game. Illinois battled in the second half, but ultimately, it was not enough. Indiana won 80-64.

"We've definitely got to play two halves," Illini guard Tracy Abrams said. "We lose, we go home. We just gotta look at it like that. So we just gotta give it our all when we go out there."

"I thought we really competed in this tournament both days," Illini head coach John Groce said. "I thought we played really hard. I thought we played for one another. I think the guys are playing the right way. Hopefully we can continue to move forward here the next few days and figure out how we can put two halves together where we're defending and playing good offense."

Despite the loss, the Illini are almost assured a slot in the NCAA tournament.
