Homer Village Brd. Rejects Water Sale to Sunrise Coal

HOMER--The Homer Village Board rejected the sale of potable water to Sunrise Coal.

After tonight's vote, those who oppose the coal mine, including selling water to Sunrise, rejoiced with victory.

Some people even had tears of joy in their eyes, although not everyone was happy with the vote.

It was almost a full house at Homer's Village Board meeting, many just concerned with what the board would decide.

Although one member was missing tonight, the vote moved forward.

Three members voted no, while the other two voted yes.

Something that surprised Homer Mayor David Lucas, as he anticipated this to pass based on their recent straw poll.

The straw poll revealed there were three who voted no and three who voted yes, and the tiebreaker would have been Mayor Lucas, who voted yes.

The contract as is, would have provided up to 8,000 gallons per day to Sunrise for the first two years.

Then after, the company could have received up to 20,000 GPD.

The current drafted contract will go under review, and possibly be represented to the board.
