Winter Weather Driving Conditions

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA--The winter storm seems to be winding down, but there's still chances for some light snow, freezing rain and drizzle overnight.

This means roads will continue to be hazardous.

People are driving slow, as they should be.

With low temperatures, and the wintery mix we saw, roads are still slippery.

Calls for emergency personnel like the Urbana Fire Department, weren't as high as expected.

However, firefighters say when they do respond to calls, they too have to be more cautions.

Not only because they're trying to get to the scene as fast as they can, but also because traffic has slowed down even more.

They add, that's a safety of others and themselves, is a big concern.

The Illinois Department of Transportation's salt dome holds 3,000 tons of salt.

140 trucks will be out in full force overnight, with 150 people working overtime.

IDOT officials said, they pour anywhere from two to three tons of salt per lane, per mile.
