Area Teens Sell Used Prom Dresses to Raise Money

Finding that perfect prom dress is not an easy task. You have to get the right color, right look, all for the right price, which is why area high school students are selling used prom dresses to raise money for a good cause.

Area teens and their parents were on a quest for that perfect dress Saturday afternoon, shopping at the first annual Prom Dress for Less event.

This event allows parents like Kathy Jostes, to take her daughters to find the right dress for a reasonable price.

"If you can donate it or sell it to somebody else that is going to use it and have good memories in it, it's just the gift that keeps on giving," Jostes said.

This gift is not only giving local teens affordable dresses, it is also helping to raise funds for a group of highschoolers called Youth on a Mission, who are going on a mission trip to Belize in March.

"Not only is this for a mission trip itself and to raise money for it, but it is also to get kids to experience what it's like out in the real world as far as what it takes to get things done, to organize an event in general," said Event Organizer Addie Ori.

This is the first Prom Dress for Less event held by Youth on a Mission and they are hoping to raise over $19 thousand for their upcoming trip. Event Organizer, Addie Ori, says they are hoping to make the event even bigger and better next year.

"Literally, by the time we will be walking out of the place today, we are already thinking about what we will be doing for next year." said Ori. "How we can bring in more dresses, get more businesses to participate, and how we can get more people to know about our event."

Youth on a Mission is hoping to help poverty stricken areas in Belize by helping with a vacation bible school as well as service projects. Event organizers say they are going to help wherever the need is and are excited to help in any way they can.

The Prom Dress for Less event raised $900 on their event Saturday and are hoping to continue raising money for their mission trip in March.
