Kenwood Anti-Bullying Campaign

CHAMPAIGN-- Students from Kenwood Elementary School received quite a surprise Friday morning when members of the U of I mens gymnastics team joined them at a school assembly. The athletes were there as part of the Seat of a Lifetime program, an anti-bullying campaign run in partnership with the university. Students learned anti-bullying techniques and skills to encourage friendship. At the end of the assembly two students were selected at random and won a ride in a limo to an Illini basketball game.

Marty Lockmiller, director of the program, says, "Overall it's been well-accepted. The U of I has accepted it, it's NCAA approved, we've met all the guidelines, which was a tough thing to do, and we're moving forward."

The program will make stops to seven schools this semester and will give away tickets to basketball, volleyball, and baseball games. Lockmiller says the goal of the program is to give students a once in a lifetime experience with the help of college and pro athletes. Athletes from several university teams have sponsored different schools in the area.
