Simon Forms Gun Working Group for New Lawmakers
Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon wants new state lawmakers to learn about different perspectives on gun ownership. Simon is starting a firearms working group, and plans to announce members today.
The group will be made up of freshmen state senators and representatives. They'll meet with gun owners, hunters, law enforcement, and families of gun violence victims.
A federal appeals court panel ruled last month that Illinois' ban on concealed weapons is unconstitutional. Attorney General Lisa Madigan is appealing the ruling, but lawmakers still face a deadline to pass a bill legalizing concealed carry.
