Vermilion County AIDS Task Force Closes

VERMILION COUNTY--After 20 years of service, the Vermilion County AIDS Task Force closes its doors.

Currently more than 50 people who are HIV positive live in the county, and still need help.

The lack of volunteers is causing the task force to shut down.

With a staff of less than 10 people, they say they just weren't able to continue providing the best services.

All funds left over, have been handed off to the Greater Community AIDS Project of East Central Illinois.

GCAP's Executive Director, Mike Benner, said they've always worked with the Vermilion County AIDS Task Force, but now will be keeping a closer eye on the county.

GCAP has received around $1,200 in left over funds, they plan to spend that money on clients in Vermilion County.

Until further notice, the county no longer has an AIDS Task Force, but the founders hopes that another local organization, or other health care officials can pick up where they left off.
