More Bike Lanes in Urbana?

URBANA--Nearly two more miles of bike lanes will soon be painted in Urbana.

City Council met Monday night, in a committee meeting, and has approved the project for council to vote on.

This means some parking spots will be sacrificed, however, no one is loosing their spot.

Parking spots on the north side of E. Florida Ave. will be gone, but there will still be plenty of parking on the south side.

The City of Urbana has plans to paint new bike lanes on E. Florida Ave between Kinch St. all the way up to Vine St.

This project, is all part of a safe routes grant of $200,000 the city received.

However, only a small portion will be used to cover the costs of these new bike lanes.

Urbana City Council plans to vote on these new bike lanes at next week's meeting.

If passed, they anticipate work will be done sometime next year.
