---MONDAY'S WEATHER---

The day began with sunshine over much of the area, but clouds were already moving across east central Illinois by afternoon ahead of yet another winter storm. Highs were in the mid 20's at most locations by afternoon.

--FORECAST---

Expect an extended period of wintry weather across the region as a pair of winter storms strengthen as they move eastward toward the midwest.

Snow will spread across the region later tonight and into the day on Tuesday. As the northern most storm system slips through the region, winds will be on the increase as we get into the mid day on Tuesday to bring blowing snow to the area.

Snowfall totals could be in the range of 5 to 8 inches by later Tuesday. The National Weather service has already posted a WINTER STORM WARNING for our northern most counties and for the counties across the state line into Indiana.

The viewing area is now under both a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY and a WINTER STORM WARNING. Stay tuned to the STORM TEAM at ABC/NewsChannel 15 for the latest on this Winter Storm...as well as the expected number of closings and cancellations. Just click on the link for "School Closings."

Also, to check the progress of this winter storm as it passes, click on INTERACTIVE RADAR available on this web page as well.

Roads will become snow packed and slippery maing travel hazardous through the time of this storm and beyond. Strong gusty winds-up to 30mph beginning on Tuesday afternoon-will create blowing and drifting snow, adding to the hazardous driving conditions. Plus...wind chills are expected to fall to around 0-degrees later Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

---6 TO 10 DAY OUTLOOK---

For February 14-18: Expect temperatures and precipitation to both be below average during the period.
