Champaign- Superbowl Sunday might also be known as a day of indulgence. Whether you're at a big party, or just sitting on the couch at home, chances are, you'll be snacking on the essential junk food items during this unofficial holiday. This weekend brings all different people together into one arena. And the common thread that holds it all together is the snack food.
Between items like potato chips, popcorn, and pretzels, the Calorie Control Council and the Snack Food Association reports that on Superbowl Sunday alone, Americans consume 30 million pounds of snacks.
But why? Well, it's the Superbowl.

"I watch the entire season of football so this is kind of the big day for me," said Christi Johnson.

Hours before Superbowl Sunday, shoppers are getting their last minute fixes before kick-off.

"We've got chips and dip," said Johnson.

"I'm going to make Italian beef," said Justin Moore.

"Some wings, and maybe some meatballs too," said Tim Smith.

With stores advertising the best deals in town, it also brings more shoppers down the aisle.

"It just brings everybody together, you know, the family the fun and even people who don't watch football, watch the game, it's just a great time," said Moore.

A day where people take a break from watching what they eat, and give themselves a Superbowl treat.

"The big part of it is the preparation right before you know watching all the T.V. shows saying here's what you can have for your Superbowl party," said Johnson.

Chips, dip, wings and of course, pizza.

"It's a lot of indulgence, it things you may not eat normally, but you know, it's once a year, so you go ahead and do it right," said Moore.

Any healthy items?

"We thought about some vegetable but, we're not really," said Johnson.

"Got some water, that's about as healthy as we're going to be today," said Moore.

"Italian beef, that will be our most health item today, " said Smith.

The Calorie Control Council also said that the average American consumes about 1200 calories from Superbowl snacking.
And you may be wondering what it would take to get rid of those unwanted calories.
Experts say it would take three hours of walking around a football field, or sticking with the football theme, two hours of touch football.

The American Institute of Food Distribution says Superbowl Sunday is the second-largest day of food consumption behind Thanksgiving.
And sales of antacid increases by 20% the day after the Superbowl.

Bond posted for restaurant worker accused of fraud
March 13, 2010 18:29 EST

CHICAGO (AP) -- A Chicago restaurant employee charged along with his bosses of defrauding two banks has been bonded out of jail.

Cook County officials say $25,000 was posted and accepted for Andy Bakopoulos on Saturday.

He'd been held at the Cook County Jail on $250,000 bond and had to post 10 percent to be released.

Bakopoulos is charged with felony theft along with Nick Giannis, owner of the Boston Blackie's restaurant chain and his son Chris.

Prosecutors allege the Giannises deposited checks from different banks into accounts at two banks. They then allegedly cashed the checks before it could be discovered the accounts had insufficient funds.

It wasn't immediately clear who Bakopoulos is being represented by.
