The Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District broke their own record in late January.

On January 28, MTD buses carried more riders than in any single day in its history. Riders boarded MTD buses more than 59,000 times (59,279) on the January Thursday. The weather that day was cold with a daytime high of 24 degrees, and there was no snow. The previous single-day high was in 2004.

The MTD has experienced an increase in ridership since changes made in mid-August 2009. The MTD's ridership increase comes at a time when transit providers across the country are seeing declines, largely attributed to economic conditions.
