Man accused of killing 2 wants out of solitary
March 12, 2010 18:04 EST

OTTAWA, Ill. (AP) -- Lawyers for a Seneca man charged in the July 2007 beating deaths of an elderly couple are preparing a motion seeking to get the man out of solitary confinement.

Lawyers for 42-year-old Keith Mackowiak say he can't get access to certain medical services he feels he needs while in solitary confinement at the LaSalle County Jail. A hearing on Mackowiak's motion will be heard March 25 by LaSalle County Circuit Judge H. Chris Ryan.

Meanwhile, Mackowiak's public defender Tim Cappellini says he also wants to move soon on his request for a change of venue. The lawyer says he fears news coverage of Mackowiak's court appearances might taint a potential jury pool in LaSalle County.

Mackowiak has been jailed since his arrest in the July 2007 deaths of 84-year-old Aloysius and 87-year-old Catherine Twardowski of Seneca.
