Making the Grade
HOOPESTON - This week's Making the Grade award takes us to Cornjerker country for a student with a list of accomplishments long enough to make some high school seniors jealous. The fact that he's only in fifth grade makes it all the more impressive.
Tristen Kissack is the type of kid who makes the most out of school. He's in band, on the basketball team and most recently, Tristen won his school's D.A.R.E. Essay contest. But it's his place on the school's spelling team that he's the most proud of.
"Well I feel young, because everyone else on the team is a sixth grader." - Tristen
"You're the only fifth grader on the team?" - Reporter
"Yeah" - Tristen
"Do you just really like spelling, or is it something that comes easy to you?" - Reporter
"It just comes easy, I feel really good spelling." - Tristen
Tristen's goal is to attend the U of I and study archeology, we wish him luck.
If you have a stand out student you'd like to honor, let us know about them. Send an e-mail to news@wicd15.com subject line "Making the Grade".
