URBANA-- A house fire in September leaves a resident with life-threatening injuries.
The victim was a cat.
Over the past four months, Dutchess has been recovering at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
In September, firefighters were dispatched to a fire, where they found the cat under a couch with severe burns.
One of Dutchess' new owners, was on the scene when a firefighter handed her the cat, and it was an instant connection.
Her owners created a Facebook pace, that has gained more than 4,000 friends that cheered her on.
To make Dutchess' recovery extra special, the Gibson City Fire Department will be receiving a set of donated oxygen masks, to help pets that may be caught in house fires in the future.
