Nationally, Alpha Xi Delta has raised more than one million dollars for autism since 2009. The University of Illinois chapter says they are thrilled to be a part of it. Alpha Xi Delta partnered with "Autism Speaks" in 2009. Together they raise funds for research into the causes, treatments, prevention, and cures for the disability.
The U of I chapter holds a philanthopy event in the fall and the spring to raise money for the charity.
"It's great to be a part of something so big. Autism effects one in 88 children so chances are within the people you know someone is effected with autism whether it's your child cousin or sister," said Kelsey Wojcik.
According to "Autism Speaks" autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the United States.
