Simon talked about new figures that point to a four percent increase in costs to attend and private and public universities nation-wide. At the same time the amount of federal aid paid to students declined for the first time in three years, meaning students will continue to take on record amounts of debt to pay for education.
"The state plays a big role and I wish the state could play an even bigger role in living up to our promises on time but I want to make sure with the resources we have we're doing as good of a job as we can," said Simon.
Simon is visiting all 12 public universities this fall, talking about her plan. One key component in her plan is to use state resources to strengthen and insure grants promoting college attendance and completion.
