Bob McCaffrey
WICD Reporter

Bob McCaffrey comes to us from the sunshine state where he reported for Central Florida News 13 in Orlando Florida. The station is a 24 hour a day/7 day a week all news-weather-sports cable channel. Known for it's infamous hurricane season, the station's focus was all about Central Florida's ever changing and extreme weather.

Bob can tell you plenty of challenging weather stories from reporting Live (and getting soaked) during heavy downpours, to endless days of getting filthy dirty chasing wide-spread brush fires with thick smoke and raging flames that required entire neighborhoods to be evacuated, forcing the governor to finally declare a state of emergency.

Bob also reported extensively on Orlando's recent record breaking violent crime rate, especially drug related murders, that has severely impacted that area's number one industry - tourism.

Before Orlando, Bob worked for WSET-TV, the ABC affiliate out of Lynchburg Virginina where he reported in the Danville bureau on the demise of the tobacco farmer, and the area's double-digit unemployment rate from the forced closure of many area textile mills due to cheap overseas imports that cost thousands of local jobs. Bob enjoys reporting on local politics and how decisions by elected officials impact our daily lives, and the consequences of those decisions both locally and globally.

Bob especially enjoys the excitement of ad-libbing Live reports, whether it's from a 5-alarm fire, bank robbery, or from city hall with the lastest high-impact annoucement. Bob feels some of his most important work has centered around his many reports on missing or abducted children, and how the power of television news can move an entire community to rally around the rescue and recovery efforts to bring closure to the family involved.

In his spare time, Bob enjoys athletics, snow skiing, jogging, ice hockey, movies, and travelling.

Bob is originally from upstate New York outside of Rochester. He obtained his Bachelors degree in Finance from Canisius College in Buffalo, and his Masters in Journalism from Columbia University in New York City.
