Ryann Hubbard

Ryann joined the WICD-TV team as a reporter/photographer in October 2005. “I am so excited to be able to cover the news in East Central Illinois- such a great place, with such great people.”
Ryann just received her Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign in December 2005. She also received her BS degree in Media Studies with a concentration in political science from the U of I in 2004.
“My passion is political and investigative reporting,” she says. “It is our job in the media to be a watchdog for the public- if we don’t, who else will?”
During the Summer 2005, Ryann received a coveted internship with the NBC Nightly News in Washington D.C. She interned with Lisa Myers and the Investigative team. “The I-Team taught me never to give up digging on a story and to think outside the box,” she says. “I love Washington D.C. I hope to get back there someday.”
Ryann spent a month in Peru as a foreign correspondent for the University of Illinois in May 2005. She investigated terrorist prisons, interviewed members of the Shining Path and MRTA in their prison cells, and interviewed national officials. Her story, “Terrorism in Peru,” aired on WILL-AM 580 Radio.
In Summer 2004, Ryann interned at WMAQ-TV in Chicago investigative reporter, Phil Rogers. During Summer 2003, she braved living in New York City interning for Fox News Channel.
Ryann grew up in Naperville, IL and her parents still lived there. Growing up she was a dedicated swimmer- swimming on her high school’s varsity team all four years.
Her hobbies include spending time with friends and family, going out to eat, traveling, and working out.
