IN THE NEWS: AEREO GOING OUT OF BUSINESS
NEW YORK (AP) -- An online startup that tried to provide a cheaper alternative to cable TV is going "off the air." Aereo has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The move comes less than five months after the company's business model was gutted by a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. Aereo used to let people watch and record broadcast TV online for $8 on tablets, phones and other mobile devices. But the Supreme Court ruled this summer that because it was streaming broadcast channels, Aereo was operating like a cable TV company -- meaning that unless it paid licensing fees to broadcasters, it was in violation of copyright laws. Three days after the ruling Aereo suspended its operations.

IN THE NEWS: INTERNET GAMBLING IN NEW JERSEY DISAPPOINTS
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Its supporters said it could turn out to be a game-changer. But so far, Internet gambling in New Jersey hasn't produced the jackpot its backers had hoped for. It was expected that online betting in Jersey would pull in $1 billion in its first year alone. But so far, it has only brought in about a tenth of that amount. At the same time, even the small boost in revenue from online gambling is helping those casinos that offer it. The online revenue has been the difference between surviving casinos finishing plus or minus compared to last year.
