CHRISTMAS LIGHTS OUT
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- Lights out! That's the order in Orange County, California, where some homeowners are being told to take down their Christmas lights. The elaborate holiday displays are a tradition in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood. Some of those lights are strung across the street on steel cables. Those are the lights that have to come down. County officials say they're a safety hazard. Some homeowners say they won't comply. But the county warns if the Christmas lights aren't taken down by tonight, violators risk fines and even misdemeanor charges.
SCREAM CHRISTMAS TREE
WASHINGTON (AP) -- It's a scream. That's Norway's gift to the people of Washington. The Embassy of Norway has donated a Christmas tree for Union Station in the nation's capital. It's decorated with ornaments designed like Edvard Munch's famous painting "The Scream." It's to mark the 150th anniversary of the Norwegian artist's birth. The tree is also decorated with Norwegian and American flags.
SEATTLE (AP) -- Seahawks fans were really rocking Monday night. So much so, the tremors from the Seahawks' stadium registered as a small earthquake on the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. Seattle clinched a playoff berth with their 34-7 victory over New Orleans. The Seattle fans were also loud. They set the Guinness World Record for outdoor sports stadium noise at 137.6 decibels.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It's now a hot dog stand with distinction. The Los Angeles City Council has named the first Der Wienerschnitzel stand a cultural landmark. The drive-thru was built in 1961. The Cultural Heritage Commission says Der Wienerschnitzel epitomizes the development of L-A's car culture. For the purists, Der Wienerschnitzel doesn't sell any actual wienerschnitzel. Wienerschnitzel isn't a hot dog but a breaded veal cutlet.
